food for thought.

There has been more than one discussion recently regarding the cable between the Converter and the battery - whether to up size the wire or not. Mostly it centers around an up graded converter that has an increased output. I myself am preparing to install a 90 amp converter with a new power center in my Avion. Additionally, I have 900 watts of solar power to put on my roof - this weekend, most likely.
So, here is some food for thought. Rather than up size the 8 AWG wire from converter to battery, why not install an inverter in close proximity to the battery and run 12/3 or 10/3 wire from the inverter to the converter (hell, the entire power center for that matter. ) in this way, instead of pulling 20/30/40 feet of 1/0, 2/0, 4/0 wire to replace the 8 AWG, you put the inverter in the Credenza/sofa area and run 6 feet of 4/0 cable through the forward bulk head to the batteries and call it a day.
This allows for the Inverter to supply 120 VAC to the power center over a 12/3 or 10/3 marine triplex.
My 90 amp converter? That device, at full 90 amp output (Which it will NEVER get to) pulls 10 Amps at 120 VAC.
Routing marine 12/3 or 10/3 triplex to the power center is a heck of a lot easier than replacing that 8 AWG with something larger.
And what about the 8 AWG? what to do with that?
Depends on the charge wizard/charge controller you have and the size and type of batteries installed.

Do you plan on selling your excess power back to the grid?

LOL. Maybe. But I think I'll wait for Foreign state actors to shut down the power grid and then set up shop.
