1987 Avion 30P Restoration

Post by Erehtuo »

Hey all,

Thought I would share some pictures of the restoration of our 30P as things progress.

When I picked up the trailer it was pretty much original and had never been messed with. I could see a few signs of water damage but didn't look like anything too serious and overall it is in great shape for being 31 years old.

Towed home with Big Red and did great. First Cracker Barrel stop because who doesn't like Cracker Barrel. Bigger truck is in the cards but figured we'd get the trailer in good shape before taking it out.

Prior owner put Ford hubcaps on the wheels, I think they look pretty good!

So far I've cleaned it up a bit and removed the couch and detached the range, microwave, and kitchen lower cabinet. I found water was leaking by the microwave and in the front as well. Parbond and eternabond just arrived this week to seal it up. Will get some interior shots up soon.

Very nice! Thanks for the pics. We have an '88 30P about to hit the road after extensive retro.

Yours looks like a good benchmark.

About as original as you can get. Overall everything in pretty decent shape though there is some damage from leaks that I have found since digging into it.

Here is the cabinet delamination I'm dealing with.

The floors are actually solid from what I've found this far so everything good there.

I've got the sink cabinet in the my garage now along with some other kitchen stuff. Plan is to paint them but I'm probably going to try and replace the damaged panels first.

The front couch has been tossed and will be building a front dinette/bed of some kind.

Some roof shots, sealing is the priority right now.

Erehtuo-

We have a ‘88 30P. The layout is similar for different features in the front.

We are wrapping up a big restoration effort on ours. Keep me posted on how I can help you based upon what we did.

Thanks Paul and Bob!

It's an extremely slow going process as there is a new baby in the house and obviously family always comes first. I'm going to try and squeeze in an hour or work when I can but expect it may take a year at least before we can take it out comfortably. Will help to spread some of the costs though.

I expect there will be unforeseen costs but somethings I think I'll have to purchase are:

Lumber to fix cabinets
Paint for cabinets
Paint for walls
Water heater. Believe it functions but it's obviously been leaking outside.
Lumber for dinette build- maybe a table post
Countertop- I have some leftover butcher block from a house remodel but not sure if enough.
New sink-current old sink is not wife approved
New furnace-believe this functions too but will replace as a safety precaution. Old one is original.
Cushions for dinette. Plan to probably use a foam mattress and cut to fit.

I'd also like to replace the polybutylene plumbing with PEX so there will be a tool purchase somewhere in there. While I'm at it I'm going to see about installing an exterior shower that's accessible when the back hatch is open. They were pretty cheap on Amazon.

We already purchased some waterproof core lux flooring from someone off Craigslist so that's taken care of.

And on top of all that, tow vehicle picked and will need work to be where I want it. 06 F250 crew cab with the 6.0 diesel. Here it is!
