I have to agree with KYAvion on both points. Avion's suspension is one of the best ever. When I took our Avion to an RV shop for inspection, they told me they had never seen a trailer with independent suspension. Also, some motorhomes use residential fridges.

Salty, the link you posted does not work. Do you mind re-sharing it? Thanks!

We might be in the market for a new fridge soon. The residential fridge idea is very appealing. So is an inverter.

I had a thought of installing a 15-20 amp manual transfer switch to go from shore power to inverter power to run the fridge when traveling. Maybe it's just a simple on-off-on switch that's compatible with PSW inverters.

Here's an example of a kit:

Any thoughts on this?

Ok, I just ordered this fridge online:

http://www.avantiproducts.com/products/id/578

After tax (shipping was free) it was $366.75 which I think is reasonable. Its slightly bigger than the original fridge (7.4 vs 7.2 cu. ft ), yet its 2" narrower. After days of Google'ing I could not find a fridge that was 23 1/2 " wide and 55 1/2 " tall (the dimensions of the fridge recess). All the fridges that were 23" wide were taller and I did not want mess with the cabinet above the fridge. The fridge I ordered is 55 1/2" tall and exactly fits in the recess height wise. I plan to buy rigid insulation sheets, so width wise, its a snug fit. Here is what Home Depot sells (the exact width of the sheet is to be determined. This is 1" I believe):

These sheets also add to the R value of fridge. Finally, I need to fasten the levelers to the floor so fridge would not slide out. The fridge arrives next week. I will take photos to document the installation.

P.S. I also need to add 1" trim to each side of the fridge recess, to hide the gap filled by insulation sheets.

Be sure to check the clearances for the fridge before applying the rigid foam. Just make sure it doesn't need an air space. Or if needed, apply a few narrow strips of the foam board so as to hold the fridge snugly, while still allowing for enough airflow.

Applying strips of insulation is a good idea. Maybe 3 strips on each side, and it should hold the fridge tight.

When I installed mine in my airstream I just lag bolted it to the subfloor, and attached a 90 bracket to an aluminum rib in the shell and the top of the fridge. I like the insulation idea though. That should work well as a good wedge.

Another option to foam board is radiant barrier. We used to use it in my insulation business.
