Hahaha that sure looks familiar. I almost said I'm glad I'm not alone!
But I didn't and I'm not going to, maybe😁
Yep it really sucks.

Agreed! I need to spend some time tidying up mine. Looks about the same.

Sad but true.

As you can imagine, they are (were) more interested in getting product out the door than anything else.
I think I will also be fixing some cold solder joints on that panel.

I spent about 2-3 hours plowing through this hair-ball to understand the circuit paths. The schematic in the owner's manual helped me with a rudimentary understanding of which went where. While replacing the rear floor, I actually worked backwards from the load points to the panel based upon the color of the wires.

In our case, much of this busyness will be simplified when I install a new high-tech tank monitoring display panel. The panel will display all tank levels It has individual switches for the water heater and pump. I had installed new peel-and-stick senders on the tanks while I had them out last fall.

My plan is to laser cut out the clock (rather useless) from the existing panel and nest the display panel in its place. Any wiring to the existing switches and circuit board will be eliminated or merged. The new tank monitoring panel does not require all the wiring of the existing. I will, however, keep everything intact (except the clock) for aesthetics.

I'll send before and after pics later.

Dunno that I'll go with a different monitoring panel, but I agree with you about the clock. Since I am not at this point familiar with the level sensors, I'll see what needs to be done. What I like about the existing circuit board in the panel is that it is old school - non RoHs solder and through hole components (read repairable)
I may put a second ammeter in the clock spot, have to think about that. I've already spied the replacements for the weather center instruments.

Yes, your comment about old school gives me pause.

My other option is to mount the display panel into the wall adjacent to the existing panel and leave it pristine. The more I think about it, the more I like it!

What is your source of replacement gauges?

EBAY.
Not identical, better (IMO) and not flaking off brass. Size is tough to determine if it is not listed in the ad, and sizes vary from 1 3/4" to 5"
I just bought these https://www.ebay.com/itm/202350095740
I like the Victory and Barigo instruments as well
