Did youever resolve the issue?

I’ve been dealing with my own soft spots, I’m not sure who/what has done more damage on my rig, carpenter ants or water. All these sleepers were like a highway Across the Avion!

Something I found in this process was that two of my sleepers had been eaten in two. Both layers of plywood and foam were all in great shape. It the sleepers were not helping span the distance between the steel beams and thus I am going to replace.

A lot of the wood along the edge is totally rotten. It is the piece if wood that is acting as the nailer for the lower rub rail and has staples or nails from the outside in. My question is how in the world am I supposed to fill that void and with what?

Dave-
I never heard back from Janet as to whether she resolved her soft spot issues.

If you go the the Interior Restoration category, there is a recent thread on floor reconstruction.

If the thread doesn’t help you, respond back and I’ll try to help you.

Sorry for not posting sooner. It has been a heck of a month. One dog had surgery, one dog got sick and died, I was out of town for a while, first dog is now sick again and I have a lousy cold!

Anyway, a friend of mine came up with this solution and I thought it was brilliant. I didn't have to remove the belly pan. I got some small L-brackets and we lined them up along the loose edge. Using an extra L-bracket we tied a string to it and pulled the lower plywood layer up and screwed it into place. Also used lots of adhesive. I hope to get to work on the trailer this week to finish up replacing the foam and top layer. I was lucky that none of the wood was rotted and I think this is going to work!

Very creative, Janet. Sometimes it’s necessay to lower the river than raise the bridge.

I see you have a lot more floor out than your earlier pics. We’re you able to find good lumber at the edges of the enlarged opening.

Sorry to hear about your pets. They’re like family, you know.
