Today I decided to get my pressure washer out and clean off the roof of the Avion. After a few years of not being cleaned after doing the reRubber roof job, it was looking kind of grey from the ground. Once I got on the roof, I could see just how dirty it was. It amazes me how filthy it can get just being outside.

I started from the front and worked my way to the back. I also cleaned the A/C cover and awnings. I used the “delicate” tip on the washer..... still plenty of pressure, and I figured I would need to be careful with the roof coating.

Here’s what I learned today:

1. Clean the roof at least once each year
2. The roof coating was very durable. Even with the tip of the pressure washer an inch or two from the surface, there wasn’t the slightest indication of trying to peel the coating off.
3. I need to cover the roof with another coat of the Cool Top Coat. What’s there looks a little thin in places. I remember that the day I did that job was very sunny and bright. Today was partly cloudy. When it was cloudy, the thin spots were evident.
4. Even with the Top Coat being thin in places, the cooling effect has been tremendous. I can’t wait to see how a thoroughly-coated roof will do.
5. Very glad I coated the roof.
6. Did I mention..... clean the roof at least once each year.

It looks great! we need to clean up our roof, and put something better on it.

Aren’t phones/cameras fun??? I have yet to figure out how my awesome phone decides which way is UP in a photo. Sometimes I will post some pictures knowing that the orientation will be messed up, just to get them posted and will fix them later. To ensure the proper orientation, I have to save them to my laptop, view them in my picture viewer/editor, and straighten the ones that are sideways.... THEN post them in the forum. Kind of tedious.....

That stuff on the seams on your roof looks like Kool Seal??? Mine was the same. Although I took the time to use a heat gun to get a lot of it off, over time I figured out that as long as the surface of that stuff is clean and intact, the Eternabond Alumibond will stick nicely to it. Then, eventually, I coated the roof with the reRubber.

It's more like roofing tar, what is on it above.

I ended up washing and wiping down the kool seal on back end and placing eternabond over it. I then decided I wanted the tape to attach to bare aluminum, so I removed an inch or so off each side of the kool seal and was going to taper they edges so I would have a nice transition to the bare aluminum. Yesterday morning when I started that the “kool seal” started coming off pretty well...so I decided to take it all off. I’m a glutton for punishment. Took me all day. Today I cleaned it up with scotchbrite and acetone, parbonded all the seams, then after a couple of hours in the sun put the tape on it. I’ll finish the vents, install new fans, change out the a/c gasket. I’ll tape the rivets too. They’re is some silicone looking junk and all the awning rivets so that should be fun. Check and repair or seal all the regular leak areas I’ve heard about then get another update on rerubber and put this roof to bed. Thanks for all the advice. I’ll post a few more sideways pics for your enjoyment/frustration.
