Repaint vinyl headliner

Post by brian.christopher »

Has anyone painted their yellowish headline/wall cover? I was gonna remove it to get to the aluminum, or try and paint it so it’s less 80’s.

We did the headliner in our prior Airstream. We used Sherwin Williams Adhesion Primer followed by their Cashmere paint in medium lustre. Our Avion doesn't have the headliner like the Airstream did, but we did the walls and ceiling using the same method. Everything was rolled on using a combination of a normal sized roller and a short roller for the curved corners.

Mine is like this woven vinyl. It’s pretty solid. I don’t think I could peel it off like airstream stuff. Here’s a pic.

That's the same as my Avion. I saw a pic recently of someone whole peeled it off to make it look like the newer Airstream trailers. It looked pretty good, but I imagine it was a ton of work using stripper to get it to come clean. I've thought about it, but I like how our white paint (Origami White from Sherwin Williams) really brightens things up.

I meant a pic of yours but also if you have one of the stripped avion I’d love to see that if it’s not a hassle. Thanks

Thanks ky. I thought I’d like the raw aluminum more than I do. Yours looks a lot more spacious. Think I’ll be painting. Thanks for taking the time to post those.

I wasn’t going to say anything just in case you really liked the bare aluminum interior, but since you said it....
Doesn’t do a thing for me, either.
