LED Lighting

Post by silverloaf »

Has anyone used 12v LED residential lighting in their trailer? This would mean scrapping the transformer and connecting the fixture directly to the trailer’s 12v circuit.

I asked a lighting supplier this question a few years ago. They said yes but it might void the fixture’s warranty.

There are a lot more options with 12v LED residential fixtures than 12v trailer.

Thanks in advance.

Used led light strips under the counters and cabinets. Removed the converter and hooked directly to 12v. No problems.

Thanks for the feedback.

Are the fixtures polarity-sensitive?

Some are polarity sensitive some are not. Best to try and connect it properly to start with if possible. If it does not work switch the wires. In some circumstances it may do damage if wired incorrectly. The light strips I used had a diagram on the converter. Made it easy to determine polarity using a multi meter.

Hi,
I am not clear on the converter that needs to be removed. Any chance you could clarify or maybe post a photo?
Thanks!

This is the converter that needs to be removed. Probably the correct term is transformer. If takes 120volt AC and converts it to 12volt DC.
