3150 Watts of Solar on our Avion

Post by tomkiser »

Hello. Installed 3,150 Watts of solar on our Avion end of June last year. Haven't been plugged into electric grid ever since. Loving the freedom it gives us. Installed 15,000 watt Ecoflow Powerkit. Thought someone might like to see what it looks like.

I hope to someday put together a YouTube video that goes into great detail. Here are key details.

Attached to roof using flashing mounts designed for installing solar rail system to shingled roofs.

Cut flashing down slightly so could more easily conform to curved roof of Avion.

Mounted flashing on roof above Avion rib supports.

First attached flashing feet to rail.

Next applied 3M doubled sided tape to bottom of flashing foot.

Then lowered rail down so feet adhered to Avion roof.

Next screwed flashing feet to roof with stainless screws.

Covered screws and flashing edges with sikaflex caulk.

Finally covered edges with Eternabond Tape.

Now with rails in place it was easy to mount Renogy solar panels onto the rails.

Installed Ecoflow Powerkit and one 5K lithium battery under closet where old Avion Electric was located.

Installed 2 more 5K Ecoflow Lithium batteries under dining area bench seat next to Electrical closet.

Not the cheapest system but the best space saving system I could find.

Cost: Around $17,000. The batteries are the biggest cost. Other batteries are cheaper but take up more space and because we live full time in our Avion wasn’t willing to sacrifice space to save money.

Thanks for this forum. I have done a lot of other mods (composting toilet, recycling shower system, larger sink and all new plumbing throughout) to our Avion and have gotten a lot of great information here on this site.

Hope this information can be of help to others. God bless each of you.
