Screen door hinge

Post by uteqdoc »

I was able to get the doors off by removing lower bracket and then removing outside door. This left me with what you see in photo. The top bracket is pressed onto the rod. I believe the bracket coming from the screen door is supposed to rotate around the rod. However, it is frozen and will not move. I have been applying PB Blaster for the past day with no luck. Any suggestions as to how to break it apart (assuming it is supposed to slide on). Thanks!

Use a heat gun and heat the hinge up around the pin. The aluminum should out expand the steel pin.

I was going to add, on my '89, there is a nylon bushing between the pin and both door hinges.

Yep, saw that. I have already purchased replacement bushings. Now just have to get them apart.

Great. Where did you order the bushings?

I bought them at a local hardware store. I think I also have seen them at Lowes.
