Toilet replacement recommendations - '66 Avion 18'

Post by 66Avion18 »

Can anyone recommend what make and model of toilet best replaces the OEM toilet in our '66 Sportsman?

That's likely a personal preference thing. You will likely need to install a new flange on the black tank, regardless of the toilet chosen. These are readily available - well, I should say in normal times they would be readily available, now, who knows. The point is that most of the mount designs I have seen will require you to remove the old black tank flange (It unscrews, with difficulty) and install a new one.
My personal throne preference is a Dometic 320 high profile. I'm not a fan of short, knee killing toilets.

Thanks. I'm with you on the height thing, the so-called 'comfort height' is the way to go (pun intended).

Well, I have no idea of toilet replacement tricks, because I myself have hired https://goldcoastplumbingexperts.com.au ... ers-tugun/ for the similar issue.

Thanks. My flange appears to be cast iron. Can that be removed? I pried on it after removing the fasteners but it appeared to move the entire black tank. I don't want to force it.

You have a pic? You could try a bunch of PB blaster and maybe you’ll get lucky. A better option might be a PVC adapter. A pic would help though to see what’s going on.

The toilet is back on and therefore I can't take a picture without removing it and destroying the wax ring. I used a wax ring as you would in your home. Fingers crossed it works. If it fails I am going to try to raise the flange using shims. Not sure if that would change things.

Hopefully the wax ring solves the issue and you won’t have to revisit the situation for a long time.
