Leaking AC

Post by Jtholland757@att.net »

My Duo-Therm model 600315-001 seems to be leaking condensation, although when it rains hard it leaks. I’ve replaced the seal, and replaced the cover seals. The only thing I noticed this evening was that the cold lines coming off the condenser are not insulated so are sweating and dripping. The condensation is draining out of each side at the front. I did see a little condensation from the uninsulated pipes puddling at the bottom of the condenser outboard and couldn’t see if it was running toward the center. I’m about to just trash an AC that cools fine and buy a new one. What am I missing? Thanks.

I have had a similar issue with my AC units and it boiled down to either a blockage in the drain ports or the seal was bad. When replacing the seal, don't crank down on it.It isn't a gasket. It's meant to float. Tight is tight, but don't torque down on it. It isn't supposed to be compressed. I have also learned the quality difference between a Dometic seal and the generics. Spend the extra coin, you'll be glad you did.
One of my AC units sits behind a slight depression in the roof where water would puddle. I built a frame around this from 3/8" aluminum stock. This was enough to get it out of the way of the pool and ease the job of the seal.
One way to test the drains is to open the unit up and slowly pour a half cup of water over the condenser coil and observe the drainage.

Something just occurred to me to ask if you had sealed the roof seams and vent openings. Water incursion at the roof or vents there may present as a leak at the AC. Just a thought.
