After much deliberation, we stuck down new floor tile and put a slip cover on the couch. It feels different but I like it—I think

I keep looking at those pictures. It amazes me how the floor tiles make the beautiful wood cabinetry stand out.

That's what my son said too. he asked what we did to the cabinets, and I told him nothing. he couldn't believe it. I did change the pulls, and had to use a wood restorer product on the marks where the back plates were, but didn't do the whole cabinet. the floor is interesting, it looks very different in different lighting. I like it a lot now.

I thought I should add a little more on the slip cover for the couch. it covers and protects the original upholstery until I find fabric I like to reupholster it, but it isn't a perfect solutions by any means.

because it is a cover meant to go over the back and sides of a freestanding couch, I had to cut out pieces on the sides and stuff it between the arms and the wall with a spatula. to get one side of it on, I had to remove the table and it's frame so I could finish stuffing it in at the bottom corner. I wanted to do that anyway to finish the floor, and see if I could get the table mounted better. It wasn't very tight against the wall. Then although the seat cushion has it's own cover, I realized I had to slit an opening in the cover under the cushion so I could access the storage under the couch. finally, the back is difficult to remove, if someone wants to sleep on the couch.

all in all, I wish I'd just put the money toward upholstery fabric...

ok, so not your finest moment. You'll get it right next go 'round. It is functional for the moment though.

yes, it is functional and protective, so that's good for now. and the original stuff has stopped getting the brunt of wear and tear too. It is very much a short term solution though, if anyone thought about it too.
