Does anyone here tow with a 2000 Ford Excursion?

Post by Razorback »

I see a local CL ad for a 2000 Ford Excursion with a V10, 158K miles, very good shape. Just happens to be silver!

Does anyone here tow with a similar vehicle??

2000-2001 Excursion: MAX Tow Capacity
Engine Axle Ratio GCWR. 4×2 4×4
6.8L SEFI V10 4.30 18,000 lbs. 10,000 lbs. 10,000 lbs.

might be on the ragged edge for your 34', but after all it is silver.

Well, I do like my PowerStroke. But, this Excursion is one of the few things I would consider as an alternative. The towing capacity is almost comparable..... Being a very early-production 1995 PowerStroke, my truck is very anemic compared to just a couple of years newer trucks. My engine is wayyyyyy detuned with the stock ECM, but it does a really nice job of towing our Avion.

Just looking...... And, a friend/co-worker has a 6.0L PowerStroke Excursion that he has been fighting problem after problem, but almost has them all fixed. He commented that he would consider going with a gas Excursion.

If anyone is interested... just down the street from me......

Text from ad:

"Amazing 2000 Ford Excursion XLT 4x4

Odometer: 158xxx, Clean Title

Awesome condition. Everything works well. No tears in the seats, carpet or headliner.

Engine: V10 Gas

Transmission: Automatic

Third Row seating for up to 8 people. If you don't care about seat belt laws you could probably put 30 people in there. There's a lot of room.

All the windows and door locks work. Power driver's seat. Every other seat is manual.

Newer (within the last 10K) suspension, brakes, transmission and other fluids flushed.

Kick-butt stereo system with two amps, sub-woofer, and android stereo by Joying.

Overhead DVD player included.

You probably can't find a better Excursion for any price. Mechanic's inspections welcomed."

I have an old 7.4 liter gas tow but I have looked at an excursion to replace it with. There’s one within a couple of hundred miles of me that has the 7.3 diesel. It’s a 2000 same as the one your looking at so it has the newer diesel than your current one.
It isn’t silver though. The only thing that’s holding me back is it has higher mileage although not that high for a diesel. 197k miles.
A diesel is the only one I would look for personally. I’ve towed with both as I had a new 1995 7.3 diesel F350 crew cab and now a used 1995 7.4 gas F350 crew cab and the diesel did so much better on fuel, towing or otherwise. I averaged Over 20mpg empty and 12mpg while towing my 10,000 lb boat with the diesel and all I get running empty with the gas is 12.
