Sorry, it’s difficult to see clearly in that pic. There is no union. I put the shut off at the top of the short length of pipe. A male to male fitting is then attached to the shutoff to allow the flare fitting from the soft copper line to attach. The reason for the shut off handle facing inside the cabinet is because there’s not enough space to reach in and turn it from the front.
