Belly pans
Belly pans
Anyone know the grade and thickness of the belly pan aluminum? It doesn't look anodized (grade 5005) just wondering. Thinking about replacing one or two of mine. 5086 is fairly cheap.

Re: Belly pans
I think the pan on my 1987 34W is galvanized sheet, like A/C ductwork is made of.
I would have to guess the thickness.... .025”?? Just a guess.

Re: Belly pans
Thanks. That pretty much settles it. 5086 it is. 48x96 sheets are $50

Re: Belly pans
You might check a local heat/air business and see if they will sell you some sheets. One just down the road from me quoted me a good price (I don’t remember exactly). Just haven’t pulled the trigger.

Re: Belly pans
What is a fair price on that you think? I need to replace all that under mine I think sometime for sure.

Re: Belly pans
the answer to that starts with "location, location, location"
I was in NJ three weeks ago and where I was at, they were asking $80 for a 48x96 sheet.
Here in Houston that same sheet went for less than $60. add to that whether you're picking it up or it's being delivered. That being said, I did not specify country of origin [Western European, US or Japan] as some of my clients do, nor did I fuss too much about grade. 5052 is a good marine grade with decent corrosion resistance. It isn't anodized. For a belly pan, it's quite sufficient.
I didn't go with galvanized steel for weight reasons - 18 lbs vs 50 lbs.
Now, if you were to say, remove the picture window on a 34V and cover it in Aluminum, and you wanted the skin to look close to original, then 5005 Anodized clear would likely be a close match and I seem to recall seeing $180 for a 48x96 sheet out of Dallas.

Mission creep
So, what started out as just replacing belly pans and putting up some insulation has evolved into Suspension.
Like others here before me, I'm changing out shocks and springs. Brakes n bearings were done two years ago, so that's just a remove and reinstall. Removed the loose rust on the frame in preparation for a POR15 application.
Discovered fiberglass insulation under the grey tank. that had to go.
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves tires be gone Reflectix installed
Axles are out getting sand blasted and having the above bushings pressed in
Speaking of Axles, there are tags on mine, bands of Aluminum riveted together specifying Max weight and a serial number. In my case, max axle weight is 5200 lb per.
New springs, shocks and an EZ flex kit are awaiting the axles return.

and lastly, I put together a terminal strip for the new whip. Tested the lights, they all work, some are pretty dim, so the next project is LED running lights.

Re: Belly pans
I feel tired just looking at all that great work! The pictures are great and that helps me see the differences on our suspensions. Is that the Mor-Ryde design?
I am gearing up to be more productive, but I have been working from home (teaching from the Avion actually) so I have been way busier during this Stay at Hone thing than expected. Supporting 5 in the household at present.
Great work and good choice for the Mission Creep.
