AVION Travel Trailers

I ordered up a Nuvite sample kit a couple weeks ago. Started a couple of test areas. The heavy oxidation comes of pretty quick, but up close, it still looks as if the metal has hard water spots on it.
I had come across some instructions for doing the compounding, but the anodize coating is so hard that you never really create any swirl marks. Or I'm doing it wrong.

Looks really good to me, but I can’t see the hard water spots. How noticeable are they? It appears what you have done gives the finish a wet look. Does it look any different when wiped with a wet cloth?

I still need to test out the Aluminox that those folks sent to me...... maybe one of the next warm days......

I am confused about the information I read about oxidation. our trailer has a lot of that white milky spots and streaking. but I read about oxidation and it usually says black streaks. and that anodized metal doesn't oxidize. did avions come with a clear coat that oxidizes?

Plain-Jane aluminum oxidizes black.... try polishing the propane cylinders.
The white stuff IS the oxidation on our anodized trailers, from what I understand.

I wonder if there is much difference in the Nuvite and the Met-all? I had good results with the Met-all today, but looks like similar results.

Have an update on the Met-all. It didn't last long. On the other hand, one of the places my husband experimented on still looks really good. He teases me to not post anything about it, because he is going to patent it and sell to Avion owners. First a wash job. then he applied Mcguiers Endurance tire gel with a soft cloth and rubbed it in. not too much gel, but enough to polish the skin to a shine. It really goes on easily and actually polishes out the white spots. Then he sprays silicone lubricant on another rag and wipes over it. He did some bad spots on the front and some on the side at the same time we used the Met-all. for a couple of weeks, all the areas looked the same. but at the end of several months, only the "custom treatment" still looked good.

We have taken several trips, washed the trailer once, the patches still look good. It's been too hot and sunny to work on it much, but we have done some areas that were looking bad and I think it looks great!

The Silver Streak dealers used a mix of Acetone & Olive Oil (or ATF). Lasts until abeavy rain. Wash and re-apply. Goes fast.

The goal isn’t the close inspection. It’s the general impression from a reasonable distance with 5005-Anodized. Differences per panel exist. And will.

“Satin Glow” (not shine) is the best description I’ve seen.

It’s what learned to work for in the 1970s cleaning my parents Silver Streak. There’s a limit.

The best dress-up is alloy wheels. Brushed effect. The American Racing “Outlaw” original to my trailer 31-years ago are still without issue.

Great wheels get the attention. Paint the wheelwells semi-gloss Black and dress the tires.

Then the body doesn’t matter quite as much.
