34P and weight dist hitch

Post by Klmracing »

So I’m still in the process of buying a 1983 34P. I have a 2019 F250 4x4 diesel that’s my tow pig. The camper is about 2 hours from my house and I’ll be bring it home to do a deep clean and reseal the roof before I start using it. My question…… do I really need a weight distribution hitch to pull the 34ft camper with my f250?

I will take a stab here.... You could get away with not having a weight distribution system since you are just towing it home. It's not going to be loaded, obviously. Just be careful.

What, exactly are you buying? Is it a 3-axle trailer, or 2? I am asking because to my knowledge there wasn't a 34P model designation. There was a 32P, 34V, 34W, 34X..... the 34's would be 3-axle.. the 32's are 2-axle.

I could very well be wrong on the model letter designation, but it’s definitely a 34ft 3 axle. It’s been a little bit since I’ve looked up the vin number and I should be going to pick it up within the next 2 weeks……… so I’ll have ALOT more questions by then. Thanks for the reply.

When I purchased my 34V last year, I towed it home about 2 hours with my Ram 2500 and no weight distribution hitch with no problem. It was a cool rainy day and I held my speed under 60 mph. I am now towing my trailer with a ProPride no sway hitch. It is a dream to tow. Just completed a 600 + mile trip with cross wind up to 30 mph. Towed straight behind me all the way. Love the stability that the ProPride gives me.

Well I went ahead and picked up a Husky 12k hitch today for $125. Couldn’t pass it up. Should be able to bring it home in about 2 weeks hopefully.
