Gas heat Ducting

Post by Salty »

Anyone with a 34V have a factory heat duct in the forward area (Living Room) ?
Looks like there may have been a vent there that may have been capped off when the PO down sized the gas heater from a NT34 to an NT30. Since I have installed a NT40, I've been thinking of reopening that duct, but wondered what factory looked like.

I just have a 30R, so I can’t comment on the original duct locations of your trailer. With the NT40, are you experiencing any short cycling? I’d think an extra duct or two would certainly help if you are.

Salty, our 1987 34W has a duct in front. Our couch is against the road-side wall...... where is yours? The ducting goes through the kitchen cabinet bases, under the jackknife couch, to a vent at the base of the front of the couch at the floor, right by the fold-down table.
The ducting is rectangular metal.

I can get pictures if you’d like.

This is what I suspected. My theater seats are against the road side wall and there is no duct along it. It's capped off at the end of the kitchen cabinet bases.
This poses an interesting engineering challenge.

Not experiencing any short cycling. I don't hit the propane until temps get under 40f, as the two AC units have heat strips. Under 40 degrees the heat strips can't keep up.
Without any ducting forward of the kitchen, the floor gets a bit chilly.
Thinking about putting the theater seats on a platform, 2 1/2" high and running a duct inside the platform.
Failing that, maybe under the floor between frame rails?
It isn't unbearably cold, but at some point in the next 24 months I'll be just south of Montreal . THEN it might be an issue.

For that front area, can you utilize a small electric heater? That would save the platform building, although that sounds like a good solution if you are so inclined.

We have a Wave 8 heater on the back side of the dinette bench. On those super cold days, it really keeps the front area of ours toasty. And it uses relatively little propane compared to the furnace.

Meh. 2 - 2 1/2 " won't be hard to do. Prolly closer to 2.
Create a plenum duct with an opening near the credenza.
