Vent fan motor Stuck.

Post by brian.christopher »

I don’t know if my vent fan is seized or if I need a new one. Any suggestions?

Does it spin by hand? If so, check that you are getting 12V power from the switch. If not, try soaking the shaft in a rust buster liquid. If you just can't spin it at all, it's likely the motor is shot.

Thanks. I think there’s power because it guns but I didn’t take it out. Just sprayed wd40 on it. That didn’t help.

Do you have a meter that you can use to verify the voltage at the motor? If that is OK and depending on how handy you are, you might be able to take that motor apart, clean it up, and make sure the shaft and bearings (bushings?) are clean and lubricated.

I hope it can be salvaged.

I’ll try that but when I get to an hour of messing with it I’ll chuck it and buy a new one.

Agreed. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle. When it comes time for replacement, I'll probably go with the MaxxAir fans.

anyone have the motor part number that's in the roof vent? I have a 69 T-28. One of my motors is missing and I am looking for a new one.

Heads up on the replacement of original Avion vent fan motors...

One of mine burnt out and I began a vigorous journey down a rabbit hole searching for a direct replacement. I’m fairly proficient at GoogleFu and after hours of searching and quite a long time on the phone with various nice folks I discovered that this motor is unobtainium.
The problem lies with:
A) the direction of spin
B) shaft length and diameter
C) mounting
D) overall motor size

I ended up getting lucky by meeting a fellow Avion owner at a campground who sent me a motor he removed to replace with fantastic fans, but if I were you, I’d see about having the motor rebuilt or replace with MaxxAir/FantasticFans.
