Refinishing 1960’s semi-opaque finish on cabinets?

Has anyone here refinished cabinets in a 1960’s Avion that originally had a semi-opaque pigmented finish from the factory? Our ‘65 has cabinets that are a golden color that I think was used on a lot of Avion campers of this vintage. I’ve also seen photos of “Ultra” models with other colors of what looks to be a similar type of stain.

Any experience stripping this particular type of original finish in your Avion? I’m thinking that it may leave some color behind in the wood if it’s a “stain”, but also wondering if might just be a pigmented varnish if some sort and would strip clean?
