Window shield
Window shield
Decided it would be a lot less expensive to make a shield then buy a new fiberglass one + shipping.
It's laminated from 3 pcs of 1/8" bending ply. Will cover with a pace of 6oz fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. Also use rear lid lifters for an SUV and figure out some sort of hinge. I have all the original hinge parts except the pace attached to the shield.

Ours is in very good condition. However, like you, I'm looking to install gas springs instread of the metal tracks with jamb screws there now.
Here's a company I have dealt with in the past:
http://www.suspa.com/us/products/gas-springs/options/
Their US operations is located in Grand Rapids, MI. They have many different types, have good tech support and will sell retail.
If I get to them before you do, I'll follow up with what will work for ours.

Re: Window shield
Did you ever weigh your old shield? That might be helpful when determining the size gas springs to use.
