19" Vent Lid (sources)

Post by BWavion »

I know there has been plenty of discussions on vent lids, but I have a 1978 34W, with the 19" vent lids. Not sure how many of the Avions (in what years) (or other manufactures) used this size in these years, or when Avion stopped installing the 19"x19" lids, (some call them 18"x18") and began using the now standard or common 14" x14" vent size. Yes, I've been up on the roof and measured 19"x19" vent lid. Here is the photo of it. I don't even know if a complete fan assembly is available. I had rather just replace the lids. Does anyone know of a good source?

I believe these vents were used up until 1982. I could be wrong but I don't think a fan assembly of this size is available anymore. Some members put an insert to allow for a smaller fan to be installed.

Chuck Cayo should have those, and will be called an 18"x18" vent cover.

I just got my replacement lid in the mail. Is anyone familiar with these rivets? They look a lot bigger. Can I just drill these out?

Yes, I drilled mine out and replaced with stainless bolts with nylon lock nuts. I also added a little silicon sealer around plate and bolt. And I found a roll of self sticking closed cell foam weather stripping to use as a seal around and under the hood. I adhered to the metal rim of the frame not the hood.

I just removed mine and they look a lot like the ones you pictured. I replaced them with 14x14 vent fans. I can measure mine and see if they’re like yours. If they are you should be able to use 14x14 also. I wish I did a tutorial. How are you measuring the vents ? Corner to opposite corner at a 45* angle?
