Rub rail/Beltline insert..... sources?

Post by Razorback »

I need to fill in some gaps in the black belt line/rub rail of our 1987 Avion. If it is not too expensive, I would consider replacing all of it.I need it for the center and the lower areas.

Any suggestions for good places to order it? Hopefully someone has some specific ordering and/or website information that can be documented here, like item numbers, measurements, etc.

I don't mind calling Mr. Cayo and paying whatever his costs, but does anyone know of any alternatives?

Yes.... over the years, this seems to be one of the most elusive bits of information that is regularly needed by Avion owners.

Paul,

I found this info on Avion Facebook page. Thought I share it with you and others here, so it can be found later :) Its difficult to search Facebook groups (just like Yahoo group)

Apparently, this fits Avions as well. I'd buy a small quantity to test it first.

Thank you for the link, but I'm not too crazy about orange for my Avion. Also, the profile of that particular trim is nothing like the stuff on the trailer. "Maybe" if it was black and "maybe" if it would compress in the channel enough to bulge outward like it needs to, "maybe" it would work.

I found this while searching the web. I would need to make some measurements of the aluminum rail that is on the trailer, but something like this might fit in the gap and fill it properly:

No, and I cannot make heads or tails out of that link, either.... good picture, but I cannot locate the insert.

I'll have to look into this again.

Looking at this: https://tacomarine.com/rub-rail-vinyl-inserts-v12-9787

From the measurement I made of the beltline trim opening, I think this will work.

I have sent a note to Taco to see if they might provide a small sample to try.......

I replaced all of the rub rail inserts on my 77 built 28M.
The middle, larger stuff I got from Cayo. Told him what I had and he suggested the amount then I upped that by 10%. Hence I have probably 15% left over.

The lower, 1” stuff I found at a chain auto parts store in 100’ rolls. Looks to be the same rubber and wasn’t very expensive.

When I replaced the inserts I also addressed any screwy screws and rivets, sealed and/or replaced those and also sealed the tops of the rub rails them selves (where the extrusion meets the skin) with trempro.
