I'm considering replacing the original furnace (which won't ignite) in my 30R. I can find the NT-30 for about $150 less than the NT-34, but will I regret it on nights down in the teens? Or would the NT-34 short cycle too much in a 30R?

From what I've read it sounds like 1k BTU per foot, so it appears the NT-30 would be adequate for my 30R. Question is, would the NT-34 be TOO much?

I would go with the NT-34. I doubt that it is THAT much more capacity that it would matter negatively.

I wouldn't think it would be that much more to cause a problem either. If it short cycled I could always add another duct somewhere to help with airflow.

After a little more reading it sounds like less is more and the NT-30 is the way to go. Apparently with a larger unit like the NT-34 in a 30R, there will likely be greater temperature swings due to the increased BTUs being produced, and when the furnace is running it may be a little TOO hot (equivalent of roughly 7 ceramic heaters running at once). Also, the short cycling wastes more energy because the heat exchanger has to heat up and cool down each time the unit kicks on and off, and more heat is expelled out the exhaust. In other words, it sounds like it's better to have fewer BTUs (e.g. NT-30) producing a more comfortable temp that runs for a longer period of time.
