My 1982 34V has been towed by a Ford F150 from Texas to Jasper, British Columbia. After that trip my dad purchased a 3/4 ton Suburban with a 454. That was its primary tow vehicle for a number of years. Traveling the east coast, Canada, and many trips to Colorado.
After I purchased the 34V and Suburban from my dad a number of years ago i settled on a 2003 Chevy 2500HD with a Duramax/Allison power train. It is great. It tows my 34V effortlessly in Colorado over anything I have presented it with. Wolf Creed Pass, Million Dollar Highway from Ouray to Silverton and Slumgullion from Creed to Lake City. Slumgullion was the greatest test, especially downhill.

Sounds like you've definitely put things to the test. How much does a 34V weigh anyway?

In my owners manual, my dad has recorded it at 8300 pounds. I need to go to the CAT Scale soon.

I haven't had a chance to go to the CAT scale yet with my new Avion either. I was surprised at the weight of my former Airstream, which was quite a bit higher than the published weight. It will be interesting to see where the Avion comes in.

I took my 1993 K2500 Suburban hitched to my 1981 34V over a Cat scale.

I know my Suburban weighed close to 7,000 lbs. with my wife, daughter, and miscellaneous junk and plunder inside. Total weight of the Suburban and 34V was 14,750 lbs. Which means fully loaded and ready to camp it weighs about 7,500 lbs.

I try not to travel with anything in any of the tanks except for the propane tanks. For water on the road I use gallon jugs purchased at the fuel stops. And I try really hard to convince my daughter that she does NOT have to pick up a rock everywhere we stop. :)

That's nothing! Did you calculate the tongue weight too? I expected a 34 footer to be much heavier. It'll be interesting to see what my 30R weighs.

I believe the empty weight of a 34' Avion is around 6800#. Add roughly 1000# for stuff and 7800# sounds about right.

Nissan Armada 5.6 Auto tow package. Self leveling air bags in the rear are standard. But they do not like the tongue weight of my 1989 30R.
