Propride (3P) hitch

Post by KYAvion »

I had a ProPride 3P (http://www.propridehitch.com) on my previous trailer, and while my new 84 with an aftermarket MorRyde suspension tows extremely well, nothing can beat the stability provided by the 3P. It's not cheap, but I just look at it as insurance and big picture it's hard to put a price on safety. Sean Woodruff, the owner, offers unmatched customer service as well.

Is this hitch head sort similar to the same design theme the Hensley uses?

I have heard very good reports about the Anderson Hitch. The three specific comments I have heard several times is it is easy to install, easy to adjust, and it isn't very heavy. http://www.andersenhitches.com/Catalog/ ... hitch.aspx

Personally I use a Pro Series weight distribution hitch with friction sway bars. It is relatively heavy, it is usually greasy, and it isn't particularly easy to adjust. On the other hand, when I purchased it from Amazon.com the delivered price was just under $200.00 including shipping. https://www.amazon.com/Pro-49903-Comple ... ting+hitch

Whichever hitch you decide to purchase and use, make sure it is sized correctly. A hitch designed for 1000 lbs. of tongue weight is going to be a bit of overkill for a trailer that has a tongue weight of 500 lbs. If it isn't heavy duty enough you won't be able to cinch the spring bars up tight enough to do the job. At the same time, you don't want it too large either. Too large will make it very difficult to adjust correctly--on one link it could be too much and the next one down not quite enough.

Mark- the 3P evolved out of the Hensley and therefore has some improvements over the Hensley design. The hitch itself adds nearly 200lbs on the tongue, so it's pretty massive. I couldn't agree more about the WD bars, and that's one thing I really like about the 3P. It's easy to dial in the WD using the same crank used with the leveling jacks. The 3P or Hensley both have a bit of a learning curve as far as hitching/unhitching, but once one gets the hang of things it's really no big deal.

If you can get past the negative banter, here's some info on the Anderson.
