Brakes

Post by Markinalaska »

Has anyone tried/done a brake conversion to electric disc brakes on their trailers? Is it even possible? I have found a kit for my boat trailer and was just wondering about the travel trailer.

I looked into it awhile back and came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth it for me. At the time I had a 1979 31ft Airstream and now an Avion 30R. I recall deciding that for the weight I'm towing, the 12" brakes are more than adequate (rated for 7K axles).

I figure the expense might be a deciding factor. I am considering switching to electric hydraulic on my boat trailer just to get rid of the surge brakes. So I was just wondering if anyone had done an electric disk conversion on their trailer. I will probably just rebuild the brake drums I have on the Avion and convert the boat trailer, even though they weigh about the same, those surge brakes are a pita.
