There is, in fact, a production assembly sequence that moves from back to front. Ours was between was just behind the AC unit. There is also an electrical box with cover plate nearby to add another AC unit.

I cut out a round aluminum disc and sealed it over the hole with exterior grade caulk. No issues in the 4 years since I did it.

On our '88 30P, A factory foldable TV antenna was perched there. A handle was mounted in the ceiling so you could twist the antenna for better reception.

The lack of full depth might affect the desired shim count on each side of the hanger bracket. This, in turn, could impact the toe angle at the wheels. I recall the OEM shim distribution is 5 on the front side and 4 on the rear. Perhaps you can compensate by distributing shims to make up for the lac...
