Re: Structural damage to tongue/frame due to rust
I had a similar rust condition on the frame of our trailer. I removed the propane tanks and support bracket to get to both sides. I then took a power wire and grinding wheels to remove the loose paint and heavy rust. I found some heavy pitting but nothing to indicate deep fractures in the frame; the...

Re: Peeling skin at vents, seams etc.
Frankly, I wouldn't worry about protecting for someone's future actions. It's a ton of work to remove all the vinyl. What you are left with are sharp metal edges and lots of holes. Besides, any bonding/etching paint you apply now will take serious effort to remove later. You might try using a razor ...

Re: Veneer damaged to doors.
My first choice is to replace the doors. From your pics, it appears the doors have 30-45 degree beveled edges on all sides. A good table saw would make this a quick job. To avoid seeing open spaces on the edges, I would use solid core plywood material. A cabinet shop should have plywood cut-offs wit...

Re: Peeling skin at vents, seams etc.
Here is a posting from May, 8, 2019, titled "Peeling Interior Paint". There is a cleaning process, followed by bonding primer designed for bare aluminum. https://www.aviontrailers.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=993 If in doubt, find a Sherwin Williams Industrial Coatings (aka: paint) store i...

Re: Another flooring question
Nice work and process.
Our sub-frame layout is completely different than yours, which explains the changeover after 1977.

Re: Another flooring question
Avion made a major body and chassis change around 1978. Yours appears to be of the earlier design. Does your shell sit on the floor assembly or is it secured by some other means? If I recall, some earlier designs has the shell sitting on the frame and the flooring butting up to the shell. I have see...

Re: Another flooring question
If you want to remove and replace the elevator bolts, you will have to remove the inner lower skin to expose them. This was exasperating because Avion started the skin install process from the rear. The next piece overlapped the last; I had to drill out a lot of rivets to peel off the skin. With the...

Re: Another flooring question
I had removed the inner skin in areas where I needed to remove the elevator bolt. It was a PITA because the adjacent panels overlapped and had to be removed as well. Remember, the shell and floor are structural elements that must be sufficiently anchored to the outrigger (aka chassis). With few exce...
