Re: Another dumb question

I love the Smokey mountains. That’s where my buddy and his family live. It sounds like you picked a nice spot to get away from Detroit in. The last city I lived in that was of any size was Denver Colorado. And that was actually the only city that I’ve ever lived in. I’ve always been an outdoorsy kin...

Re: Another dumb question

Where are you living in Georgia? I used to go to Stone Mountain years ago. We never spent a lot of time in Georgia as we were traveling to Florida to visit relatives. My plan right now is to travel with the trailer once I get it ready for the road for a year or two and then head to Panama to do some...

Re: Another dumb question

Well Bob, I now live in what’s called the banana belt up here although it doesn’t ever get really hot, it never gets really cold either. For the last 6 years I’ve not had to plug my cars in at all. In Fairbanks you have to plug in every winter or it won’t start. Cars don’t like it when it gets down ...

Re: 1976 Avion Legrande Restoration

Apologies for the delay. Times are crazy. The key tool I used to re-adhere the frame to the body was a dealt 90 degree impact extension tool. I will include a picture. The process worked well. It was tricky in some spots but I was able to compete the rebuild in what I feel will be a more solid stru...

Re: Another dumb question

Well, after much more research I’ve answered my own question. If I replace the Tires with Goodyear Endurance trailer tires I don’t need to inflate them to the maximum psi. They are the only tire (according to Goodyear) that has a chart for different weights of the load and the corresponding tire inf...

Re: Another dumb question

Thanks Bob, I know that there isn’t such a thing but it gets people to read it . I will have to see if I can gather enough of the numbers off of all the rims added together to make sense of it all. I can’t read everything on the one I have access to right now. The others are at the shop. I migh...

Another dumb question

As I was cleaning up my rim I noticed that it’s a 15x6” rim rated at 60psi. I know the original tires were load range D and most of those have a max pressure of 65psi, which is more than the rim is designed for. The E rated tires have a max pressure of 80psi. I’m now concerned with replacing the tir...

Re: Axle progress

Mark - Thanks for the tip on Permatex. I didn't mess with removing the old tires. Our trailer has aluminum wheels. Not worth the risk of damage. Were you able to clean/paint your rims before having new tires installed? Bob, I am still in the process of cleaning the rims. I’ve had boating outdrive i...

Re: Axle progress

On a side note, I thought I would save a few bucks and remove my own tires to redo my rims. I’m not sure if they were original or not but after a few hours on the first one I’m taking them to the tire shop. I tried to break the bead with my high lift jack and my truck, all that did was collapse the ...

Re: Axle progress

Very nice outcome, Mark. I did essentially the same procedure as you. I used Rust-o-leum rusty metal primer primer after I buzzed the parts with a wire wheel. The result was great. Thanks Bob, I’m using permatex rust treatment as the base coat. I’ve been using it for years on my ocean boats when th...
