Re: Hitch weight
I inspected a 1978 30R a couple of years back (I did not buy it, as it was in poor shape, abandoned in a farm). I have a Sherline scale and I weighed the tongue weight. Under the jack, it read 700# (on the coupler I guess it would be 650#). I am assuming the water tanks and LP tanks were empty. Inte...

Re: New Flooring, dinette upholstery, and curtains
Thanks guys! Just realized the upholstery shop also changed the pads that are around the bed (you can see it in the 4th photo, right behind the pillows). They were the original and in a very bad shape. I asked the shop to use the same fabric they used for the dinette. The cost was included in the $3...

Re: Tow Vehicle Weight Ratings
There was this new Airforums member who kept posting about the "dangers" of towing with a pickup truck (he had his SUV "setup" up north). He talked about pickup's high center of gravity, its propensity to rollover, its poor handling/cornering, its unacceptable braking, all the de...

Re: Tow Vehicle Weight Ratings
We think alike! I have posted on this topic at Airstream forum many times, and was viciously attacked by the fanboys. At times I, too, wonder why I bother. First off, European vehicles are not necessarily the same as those in North America (NA). My Forester is rated to tow 2400# in NA and 4000# in E...

Roof Vent Cover cleanup
I cleaned up the roof vent covers of my Avion and painted them in the past summer. Here are some before/after the photos
