Re: Exterior Rivets
Salty, looks like you got it figured out nicely. You can pull them with a standard hand rivet puller. If you really want to go big, get a air powered puller from aircraft spruce and speacilty, the cheap one works great, I’ve pulled a lot of rivets with it. Setting them properly is key as the locking...

Re: Exterior Rivets
The appeal of the Avion to me was the aluminum construction and ease of repairing it. I wouldn’t touch Olympic rivets. In the aircraft industry we avoid them as well. If I can’t buck the tails on a solid rivet I would only use Cherrymax blind rivets. Structurally they can replace solids size for siz...

Re: Dangers of Acetone?
I personally wouldn’t worry about it. We use acetone to clean aluminum regularly in the aviation industry. While it needs to be treated as a potentially dangerous chemical and proper safety protocols taken it is benign on aluminum and the hard anodizing won’t be affected. I.e it won’t cause corrosion.

Re: Interior paint
Thanks for the advice. That will have to wait for this winter. There’s to much camping to do right now. That and a toilet install.

Re: Interior paint
Bob - thanks. I’m mulling over whether to paint the cabinets or leave them be. Do you have a photo of how yours came out?
Thanks

Re: Rock Guard Replacement
I built mine from galvanized channel and plexiglass I found at the hardware store. Pop rivets and some aluminum hinge I had on hand. An idea if you don’t want to buy one. Chuck had one a year ago when I stopped in to see him and have him give my 28J a look see. He lost his mold in a fire so there wo...

Interior paint
Just finished repainting the interior. The vinyl on the aluminum sheeting was in good condition just a off yellow color that was sickly looking. I found Nuvo cabinet paint “Titanium White” that went on very nice. Cleaned the walls with super clean and then a alcohol wipe prior to painting. Two coats...

Re: Cabinet latches and struts
My 78 28J has a similar latch but dimensionally the hole is farther from the latch tongue than the 225. I bought them thinking they would work but alas they won’t. These use a steel spring and mine use only the plastic as a spring. Wish I could find the originals. I’d use the 225 but I’d have to mov...
