Re: 1990 Whale for sale in Florida

Yes, I remember talking to Chuck about different years of Avions. He didn't like the construction of the Whale or the basement model travel trailers. But I was pleasantly surprised when he told me he thought our 1987 34W was his favorite! Sounds like you got a "whale" of a deal! :D I'm not sure why...

Re: 1990 Whale for sale in Florida

This one could be an exception to the rule. I looked at a Whale parked behind Chuck Cayo's repair shop. Chuck says Fleetwood used a lot of OSB in this model and rot-out was very common. Chuck pinned the turd on Fleetwood for pushing it into production with little or no testing. Imagine trying to fin...

Re: Leaks!

How did you modify the rafter arm bar? Any pics? Sorry, no pics. I was fighting time, darkness and weather. I put the bar in a vise. I cut a 45 degree chamfer on the inside corner with a hacksaw, then filed it smooth. There was still plenty of material thickness remaining when finished. It's helpfu...

Re: Leaks!

I made the modification to the front awning bracket and the rafter arm bar today. I installed it and it is snug against the skin.

Time will tell whether it was worth my time and labor. The repair is directionally correct for strengthening the joint. I can live with that.

Re: Leaks!

Are we talking about the rubber piece that covers the screw heads for the window? If so, I believe it is cosmetic, but I'm not positive. Nralifer--can you answer this definitively? As far as that awning bracket, is it currently riveted in three places? I'll have to look at mine next time. Mine was ...

Re: Leaks!

I wasn't aware the window seal was cosmetic. What kept water out of Avion windows? No ideas for the flashing yet. Integrating functionality with aesthetics will be the challenge. I'm going to add an attachment screw for the awning bracket where it supports the rafter arm bar. My theory is the rafter...

Re: Leaks!

Safe trip.

Better take tire chains. Florida weather is rather unpredictable these days.

Re: Leaks!

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Mine is the front curved window too. The leak is at the bottom on the door side. Same potential entry points as yours. Our trailer consumes the space from the driveway to the detached garage. The front corner lines up with back door of the house. Bad for drivew...

Re: Front wall to floor seperation

On our '61 T20....I noticed separation on front exposed outside frame to wall. I had already completed extensive floor replacement in trailer. I installed at that time, some L brackets on the inside floor to inside wall due to my concern about what looked to me like a Roob Goldberg engineering job/...

Sometimes we're bound to fail. I give up. It must be welded but I can't see exactly where and don't want to damage the hitch or the jack itself.
Ordered the manual override handle from Barker.
Ever think of calling Chuck Cayo?
